Clallam! the blog of the book

April 17, 2016: The Old Cemeteries Society of Victoria asked me to conduct a tour of Ross Bay Cemetery, and on a beautiful Sunday afternoon a goodly turnout of necrologists stopped at the graves of eight victims of the Clallam, one survivor, and a resident with a connection to the captain. From a vantage point on the waterfront we could see the approximate route of the Clallam from Port Townsend to the point a mile or so off Trial Island, where the fires were extinguished by rising water in the engine room. Three lifeboats were launched soon after with disastrous results.
